Witches do not belong in Christmas parade

To my fellow citizens of Port St. Joe,

I would like to say the PSJ Christmas Parade was one of (if not) the biggest I’ve seen. The crowd was larger as well. I love seeing all the children with excitement on their faces. Unfortunately, as a Christian, there was one entry that offended me. Witches. Yes, a group of well-meaning people dressed up as witches with Christmas lights on themselves to look festive. I was told by one of them they are there for a fundraiser for the St. Joseph Bay Humane Society. Well, I love dogs (and cats) just as much as anyone. In fact, we donated to the local cause. But I feel the Christmas Parade is not the parade to have them enter.

Christmas is (should be) a time of celebrating God’s love for us by sending His only begotten Son into this world bringing love, peace, joy, forgiveness and hope. Without the birth of Jesus, we would not have a reason to celebrate.

John 3:16 in God’s word it says, “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall have everlasting life.”

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23.

“But God demonstrated His love for us in this while we were yet sinners, Christ dies for us.” Romans 5:8.

“If you confess with thy mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9.

If you believe, here is a prayer for you: Lord God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus Christ, sent by God, came into this world to forgive me of my sins. I accept your gift of eternal life. Thank you for forgiving me and for my new life in Christ. I want to follow you and obey you in all that I do. Amen.

This is what Christmas is all about.

Merry CHristmas and may you have a blessed new year,

Debbie Earley
