Sharks score second straight 36-0 shutout

The storm that is Port St. Joe football struck again last Friday night in Monticello as the Tiger Sharks rained on the Tigers of Jefferson County, shutting them out 36-0 score to improve to 2-0.

D.J. Oliver once again made his way onto the highlight reel, finding the end zone three times on runs of 1, 10, and 29 yards on his way to a 116-yard rushing night. The senior also threw a touchdown pass and was a force on defense with three solo tackles and five assists.

Quarterback Colin Amison threw for 154 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown pass to Nick Jefferson and a 2-point conversion pass to LaJuan Zaccaro after the first score. Zaccaro would also recover a fumble during the game.

The Tiger Sharks essentially put the game away in the first quarter. Oliver started the scoring at the 8:20 mark, and followed that up with his second touchdown with 3:50 remaining.

Amison’s scoring toss to Jefferson occurred with only 40 seconds in the initial frame. After Christian Peacock’s second extra point kick, Port St. Joe led 22-0.

With 3:45 left in the half, Oliver hit Chance Gainer from the Tiger 6-yard line for the final score of the half, giving the Sharks a 28-0 lead after the extra point try failed.

Oliver ran for the final Shark score with 7:20 remaining in the third quarter and after Aiden Gainer converted the two-point try, Port St. Joe’s lead increased to 36-0. Besides rushing for 30 yards, Gainer also recovered a Tiger fumble.

Once again flexing their offensive muscle, the Tiger Sharks had a balanced attack with 199 yards on the ground and 185 through the air, with six Sharks making catches, led by Jefferson’s four snags and 106 receiving yards.

In addition to rushing for 28 yards, P.J. Jones contributed 35 receiving yards along with a fumble recovery on defense.

On the road again this week, Port St. Joe travels to Vernon Friday night, 8 p.m. ET
